PHONE CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPECIAL CHARACTERS 95LX 100LX

PHONE CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SPECIAL CHARACTERS 95LX 100LX

On the 95LX the ALT key is used to generate special characters, such as faces, hearts, etc. ( you can find these characters in the HP 95LX User's Guide, pages E-2 & E-3.)

I had hoped to use these special characters as search keys in conjunction with PHONE. However, the FIND function doesn't work for 'unusual' characters. For example, try placing ALT-1 and ALT-2 in APPT, PHONE, or MEMO. Then, use the FIND (F7) function on any of these characters, such as ALT-1. Note that it locates both ALT-1 and ALT-2! The inability to differentiate between special characters makes them less useful as search keys.

[Editor's Note: On the 100LX the PHONE's Find [F4] feature will not accept ATL-MENU-1 and ALT-MENU-2, these are the 100LX equivalent of ALT-1 and ALT-2. However, the Find feature will work with characters generated with the [Fn] key. See the HP 100LX User's Guide for more details on the special character generation.]
