Find/Replace on the HP 100LX

Find/Replace on the HP 100LX

The 100LX MEMO program has a Find/Replace function permitting the finding and replacing of text. It can find commas, quotation marks, periods and other keyboard-inserted characters. You can also search for double spaces and convert them to single spaces.

It would be of interest to learn whether there is a way to find and replace tabs, paragraph markers, and other characters which are part of the extended character sets. Often I import text files created in a word processor on my office PC. I sometimes forget to convert them to ASCII format and the files contain formatting characters. The ability to replace characters from the extended character set in MEMO would greatly facilitate working with these files.

[You can search for extended characters on either Palmtop. You can Find and Replace extended characters on the 100LX.

On the 95LX, to find an extended character in MEMO, press (F7) (Find), enter the extend character, and press (ENTER). The extended character is entered by holding down (ALT) and keying in the extended character code. See page E-2 in the HP 95LX User's Guide for a list of the extended character codes.

On the 100LX, to find an extended character in MEMO, press (F4), enter the extended character, and press (F10) (OK). To Find and Replace an extended character, press (F5), enter the extended character, press (<Tab>) to go to the "Replace with" box and enter the character you want to substitute, and press (F6) to Replace All instances of that extended character. The extended character is entered by holding down (ALT)-(MENU) and keying in the extended character code. See page B-2 in the HP 100LX User's Guide for a list of the extended character codes.)

You can replace individual instances of a specific extended character, instead of all instances. In MEMO press (F5), enter the extended character, press (<Tab>) to go to the "Replace with" box and enter the character you want to substitute, press (F4), Find Next, and then press (F5), Replace -Rich.]
