I go back a long way with HP portables I still have my first, an HP110, as well as copies of the Portable Papers that Hal published. When my copy of the November/ December issue of The HP Palmtop Paper arrived today wrapped in the Your-subscription-has-expired notice, I was planning not to renew.

Why? Id abandoned my 100LX for an HP 320LX, which I hated, and had gone on to a Libretto as my carry-anywhere device.

Then I found the article about running PIM (Personal Information Manager) software in Windows in Hal's User-to-User column.

[Using this software on a desktop lets you access your HP palmtop phone, appointment book, and solver files in the Windows environment on your desktop. The PIM software is on Thaddeus Computing's 1998 CD InfoBase, as well as on CompuServe's HPPC forum in the OmniBook 500 and OmniBook 600 sections; files OB5DSK.ZIP and OB6DSK. ZIP, respectively. This software is for the HP OmniBook and is not supported by HP for other machines. Editor.]

Id long ago ported the 100LX appointment and telephone book software into my Windows 95 machines, and after trying 3 or 4 more modern PIMs, kept going back to the HP one.

With the tips from Hal's article I'm now running the MUCH more satisfactory version from the OB6DSK files - and first thing tomorrow I'm renewing my subscription to the HP Palmtop Paper!

Thanks.
