I swap out my alkalines the first time the "low main battery" warning flashes. Saves on my back-up battery, which gets fried in fairly short order if it has to support the 95LX while the main batteries are dead.

I throw the 95LX rejects into my Sony "Sports" FM-stereo headset, and the batteries hold down their second job very well. (Batteries no longer strong enough to power the HP 95LX will power other devices for some time more). Put your old batteries to work somewhere less critical!
